  1. VOTE NO MAY 3rd - PROP 1 is a 38% TAX INCREASE

TAX ALERT!! Fellow taxpayers of Washtenaw County, The current millage is 3.8761 already for the WISD, and the increase - NOT RENEWAL - is 1.5 mils.

    Simple Math: 1.5 / 3.7861 = 0.38698692 * 100 = 38.7% INCREASE.  This is an  OFF ELECTION CYCLE!!! VOTE NO MAY 3rd!!!!

BRIGHT IDEA: Instead of RAISING AN ADDITIONAL $22 MILLION per year, for the next 10 YEARS to an already BLOATED WISD budget of $120 MILLION, why not sell some un-needed buildings and real estate?

CASE#1: Chelsea School District’s Pierce Lake Elementary (details via link)

Facing a shortfall of $2.8 MILLION in 2010 the CPS Board made the tough decision, to raise taxes instead of work within a budget. The CPS Board was hoping the sheeple would fund their largess.  I attended the CPS Board meeting to counter their proposal, armed only with facts (From Standard and Poor’s reporting), logic and common sense. It was there that I made my recommendation publically, to close at least one school, as well as sell the Old Chelsea High School to the WCC (I envisioned as a Tech West Campus). The board would have none of this, and instead continued unfazed.

    SOME BACKGROUND:

Since the mid-nineties when enrollment peaked, enrollment has dropped from nearly 300 kindergartens to 166 in 2010.  Therefore, it just made economic and common sense to close an elementary school.  Superintendent Dave Killips, was not pleased with my proposal. “We would have to close Pierce then”.  So be it was my response. Fortunately the electorate paid attention, voted and the Millage failed.  Pierce Lake Elementary school was closed and, to the best of my knowledge, 6 years later, it remains closed. http://www.chelsea.k12.mi.us/

And remember when the WISD asked for 2.0 MILS? Go here for a refresher: http://www.mackinac.org/10845

Horrific how WISD operates, http://www.mackinac.org/features/search/?text=washtenaw+ISD And SPENDS https://www.mackinac.org/depts/epi/salary.aspx and but I digress.

Which brings me back to the point.  $22 MILLION per year for 10 years. Why? What other boondoggles like Pierce Lake are there waiting for the unsuspecting public to pay for??   The WISD is using the special needs children to draw your support. DO NOT BE SWAYED. In the WISD's own words, the money SHALL NOT BE USED FOR SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAMS!! This election is costing the WISD and we the taxpayers, $300,000.00 just to run and promote!! Just imagine what the St. Louis Center (also in Chelsea) could do with $300,000.00!!

The St. Louis Center takes care of special needs boys, girls, adults and is funded by private donor contributions from people world-wide; The Knights of Columbus and other like-minded organizations. Check them out for yourself: http://stlouiscenter.org/

“St. Louis Center is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) residential community in Chelsea, MI for boys and adult men and women with I/DD. Our Children's Program accepts boys between 6 and 18 and our Adult Program accepts men and women 18 and older. Our programs are licensed by the State of Michigan and the agency is accredited by CARF.”

Question: why in the world is the WISD taking care of anyone up to 26 years old? Since when are 26 year olds “children”?? Seems to me that it would be MUCH wiser to take the entire WISD budget of $120,000,000+ PER YEAR,  and give it to the St. Louis Center.  According to the Mackinaw Center, the WISD has an enrollment of ~ 200 students!!! YES, only 200. Also, the WISD claims to help 6,500 children “elsewhere” in the district.  If you do simple math (not COMMUNE CORE MATH) you arrive at a staggering figure per child.  Really it is that simple: $120M / 6,500 = $18,461.54 per child.

In conclusion, it’s all a well-intentioned service, turned to a job’s program gone horribly wrong. No other industrialized nation spends as much as the US which such abysmal results.  Just VOTE NO May 3rd, turn it ALL DOWN… oh, there are ~ a half-dozen other millages coming too, just this August and November… Here I come New Zealand!
